It doesn't matter if the Painted Lady is real or not.
Because your problems are real, and this river is real. You can't wait around for someone to help you. You have to help yourself.
If you didn’t already know, The Painted Lady is among my top favourite episodes of ATLA. The message couldn’t be any more relevant today. Katara refuses to turn her back on people who need her. She takes down the factory that is polluting the waters the small village relies on to fish and scares off the Fire Nation’s oppressive presence. And then she inspires the villagers to rise up and work together to clean the river, their main source of resources and prosperity! If Katara was a real life person, you bet your ass she would be at the front of the protests, fighting for human rights!💥
A reminder that the BLM carrd link is in my bio and has so many resources and ways you can support🌟
Rewatching my comfort show has been such a blessing. I get so emotional watching it🥺 It dealt with so many social justice issues perfectly: racism, diversity, sexism, colonialism, even genocide, war, and blindly following orders. I’ll never stop signing the praises of ATLA! Absolutely a kids show every child should watch. 📸 @zabcosplay
